AI Story Generator

An AI story generator writes a piece of fiction from an idea you give it. You type a premise, such as a lighthouse keeper who finds a message in a bottle addressed to her, pick a genre and a length, and a language model writes a titled story with a beginning, a middle and an end.

There are eight genres: general fiction, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, romance, horror, adventure and children's stories. Lengths are flash fiction of about 300 words, a short story of about 800, and a longer story of about 1,500. The prompt carries the basics a writing workshop would give you: a character who wants something, specific sensory detail, dialogue where it helps, and no clichéd opening. Sampling is set high, so pressing Redo on the same idea gives a different story rather than a rewording.

Know what a small model does well and badly. It is good at getting a draft moving, at setting a scene and at ideas you had not thought of. It is weaker at keeping a plot consistent over 1,500 words, and it can forget a character's name, leave a thread hanging or miss the target length. A longer story can take 30 to 60 seconds to finish. Read it as a draft and fix what does not hold together.

The model runs on the Toolz server. Your idea is sent over HTTPS, the server builds the prompt and runs Gemma 3 1B, a small open model from Google, with Ollama, and the story streams back as it is written. Your ideas and drafts are used to write the reply and then discarded: they are not stored or logged, not used to train any model, and not sent to any third-party AI company, which matters if you are working on something you plan to publish. It is free with no signup, within about 20 stories per 10 minutes.

You can also write from a prompt list, work with a writing group, or use a large commercial model that holds a plot better but may keep your work. Many writers use a generator for a first scene or to break a block, then write the rest themselves. If your school or a competition has rules about AI-assisted writing, follow them.
