What is a video trimmer?
A video trimmer cuts a clip down to a single stretch of it. You give it a start and an end, and it writes out just that section, leaving the original untouched. It is the one edit almost every video needs and the only edit many of them need: removing the fumbling at the start before you found the record button, cutting the dead air at the end, or pulling a thirty-second answer out of a forty-minute interview. There is no timeline with layers here, no transitions and no effects, because those are a different job and a heavier tool.
This one runs entirely in your browser. The video is read from your disk into the page, cut there, and handed back to you as a file. It is never uploaded, there is no queue, and no copy of it exists on a server to be deleted later, because none was ever made. That matters more than it sounds for video in particular: a clip is usually the largest and most personal file anyone edits, and the normal arrangement for a free online trimmer is that you hand a stranger your footage and trust the retention policy. The work is done by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, which is the same engine most desktop editors use underneath, running in the tab instead of on a machine you do not control.
Two ways to make the cut, and the difference is worth understanding because it decides how long you wait. Copying the streams is the default: the existing video and audio are repackaged into a new container without being decoded, which is close to instant even on a long clip and loses no quality at all, because nothing is re-compressed. The catch is that a copy can only cut cleanly on a keyframe, and keyframes are typically one or two seconds apart, so the real start can land slightly earlier than the one you asked for. When the exact frame matters, switch to the accurate mode: that decodes and re-encodes the section, lands on the frame you chose, and takes considerably longer for the same clip.
The practical limits are the ones a browser imposes rather than ones we chose. A tab has a memory budget, so very large files and very long cuts are where this struggles, and a single export is capped at thirty minutes for that reason. For a two-hour recording, a desktop editor is the right tool and we would rather say so than hand you a tab that runs out of memory halfway through. For the clip you want to post, the answer you want to send, or the forty seconds you want out of a screen recording, a browser handles it comfortably. MP4, WebM, MOV and MKV all open, and the export keeps the format it came in as. It is free, with no watermark on the result and no account.
How to trim a video?
Choose a video
Drag a file in or click to pick one. It is read straight from your disk into this page, so nothing is uploaded and nothing leaves your machine.
Set the start and end
Drag the two handles on the timeline, or type a timecode. The field accepts 45, 1:30 or 1:02:03, and the preview scrubs with you so you can see the frame you are cutting on.
Pick fast or frame-accurate
Fast copies the streams untouched and finishes almost immediately, but lands on the nearest keyframe. Accurate re-encodes and lands on the exact frame, and takes longer.
Export the cut
Click Trim. The cut is written in the tab and downloads when it is done, named after the source with the window appended so repeat exports do not collide.
Key Features
Nothing Is Uploaded
The file is read into the page and cut there. No server receives it, no queue holds it, and there is no copy to delete afterwards because none is made
Fast or Frame-Accurate
Stream copy finishes in about a second and re-compresses nothing; accurate mode re-encodes to land on the exact frame. The tradeoff is labelled rather than hidden
Typed or Dragged Timecodes
Handles on the timeline for rough work, and a field that accepts 45, 1:30 or 1:02:03 for when you already know the number
No Watermark, No Account
The export is the clip and nothing else. No overlay, no signup, no emailed download link, no trial that expires
