Can I find my Moon sign without a birth time?

Often, yes. The Moon spends about two and a half days in each sign, so on roughly three days in five the date alone gives a definite answer. On the other two, the Moon changed sign partway through the day and the answer depends on when you were born. How fast does the Moon change signs?

The Moon covers about thirteen degrees of the zodiac a day, or roughly half a degree an hour, so it crosses a thirty-degree sign in about two and a half days. It completes a full circuit of all twelve signs in about 27.3 days. That is why a Moon sign needs a birth time when a Sun sign usually does not.

What is the difference between a Sun sign and a Moon sign?

The test suite holds the Moon's position to within ten arcseconds of JPL Horizons at eight dates between 1905 and 2060. In practical terms the arithmetic is never the limit: ten arcseconds is under half a minute of the Moon's motion, while a birth time remembered to the nearest five minutes already moves it by nearly three arcminutes.

What is a Moon sign?

Your Moon sign is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at the moment you were born. Where the Sun sign describes what you are consciously building over a lifetime, the Moon is read as the private self underneath it: your emotional reflexes, what you need in order to feel safe, how you react before you have had time to think, and what you do when you are hurt. It is the placement people recognise in themselves most immediately, and the one that most often explains why two people with the same star sign are nothing alike.

A free moon sign calculator should tell you when a date is not enough, and this one does. Enter 6 April 2001 with no birth place and tick I do not know my birth time: the result is 24°33' Virgo, with a warning that the Moon moved from Virgo to Libra during that day, so it could be either. Add 07:30 and London and the answer settles at 21°12' Virgo, in the 6th house. This online moon sign calculator needs no account, and nothing you type leaves the browser.

It is also the placement most often got wrong, because the Moon moves fast. The Sun covers about one degree a day; the Moon covers thirteen, which is a whole zodiac sign every two and a half days. That means the Moon changes sign at some point during roughly two days in every five, and on those days a birth date alone genuinely cannot tell you which side of the line you fall.
