Your Venus sign is the zodiac sign Venus occupied when you were born, and it is read as the part of a chart that governs love, attraction and taste. Where the Sun describes what you are becoming and the Moon what you need, Venus describes what you want: how you express affection, what draws you to a person, what you find beautiful, and what you treat as valuable. It is the placement people reach for when a Sun sign description of their relationships does not fit - which is often, because the two are not measuring the same thing.
Venus never strays far from the Sun in the sky - at most about forty-seven degrees - so your Venus sign is always your Sun sign or one of the two signs either side of it. That constraint is why Venus sign and Sun sign so often coincide, and why the cases where they differ are informative. Venus moves a little over a degree a day when direct, spending three to five weeks in a sign, but it also turns retrograde for about forty days every nineteen months. During a retrograde it can cross back over a boundary it has already passed, which is why a table of date ranges cannot be trusted for Venus the way one roughly can for the Sun.
This calculator computes Venus's actual position rather than looking it up. It uses the VSOP87 planetary theory - the standard analytic model of the solar system, published by Bretagnon and Francou at the Bureau des Longitudes - reduced to the terms that matter at this precision, then corrects for light travel time and aberration to give the position as it appeared from Earth. The result agrees with JPL Horizons, NASA's ephemeris service, to within about one arcsecond. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
Venus spends three to five weeks in a sign, so the date settles it on most birthdays without needing anything else.
Venus moves just over a degree a day, so a time only matters if you were born on a day it changed sign. The calculator tells you when that is the case.
On a day Venus crossed into a new sign, the city sets the time zone so your local birth time converts correctly and the answer becomes definite.

Positions from VSOP87, the standard analytic model of planetary motion, not a table of approximate date ranges
Agrees with JPL Horizons to about one arcsecond at dates spread across 1900 to 2100
Corrects for the minutes the light took to reach Earth and for the Earth's own motion, so the position is the one an ephemeris tabulates
Because the position is computed rather than looked up, a Venus retrograde that crosses back over a sign boundary comes out right
Find your Chiron sign - the "wounded healer" - from your birth date, computed from a JPL Horizons ephemeris rather than an approximate date table
Find your Black Moon Lilith sign from your birth date - the mean lunar apogee, read as the part of yourself you were taught to suppress
