Every card is laid out in the browser at the full 1080 x 1080 output size; the preview shows that layout scaled down to fit, and the download captures it at full size rather than enlarging the preview. Your image is read locally, composited locally and exported locally, and your text, colors and image are kept in your browser's local storage so the card is still there next visit until you press Reset. Apart from any image URL you paste in, the only outside request is for fonts: the 50 typefaces come from Google Fonts, so without a network connection the card still exports but text falls back to a default typeface.
