The BMI Calculator works out your Body Mass Index — a single number that relates your weight to your height. Enter kilograms and centimetres, or pounds with feet and inches, and it returns your BMI to one decimal place, the World Health Organization category that number falls into, and the weight range that would put you in the normal band for your height.
Body Mass Index is defined as weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. It was designed as a quick, cheap way to screen large populations for weight-related health risk, which is exactly why it is useful and exactly why it has limits. BMI does not measure body fat directly and cannot tell muscle from fat, so a lean athlete and a sedentary person can share the same score. It is not validated for children, pregnant people, or the very muscular.
This calculator keeps the maths transparent. It shows the formula it used, converts imperial input to metric internally so both unit systems give the same answer, and reports the healthy weight range and how far you are from it. Every calculation runs in your browser — your weight and height are never sent anywhere, logged, or stored.
Switch between metric (kilograms and centimetres) and imperial (pounds with feet and inches). The tool converts internally so the result matches either way.
Type your weight and height. In imperial mode you enter feet and inches separately; the calculator combines them into total inches for you.
You get your BMI, its WHO category, your healthy weight range for that height, and how many kilograms or pounds separate you from that range.
Copy the one-line summary, or adjust the numbers to see how a change in weight or height shifts the score. The formula is shown so you can verify it.
Enter kilograms and centimetres or pounds with feet and inches. Imperial values are converted to metric internally, so both paths produce the same BMI
Results map to the World Health Organization bands, including the three underweight grades and the three obesity classes, not just a vague "over" or "under"
For your exact height the tool computes the weight range that lands in the normal 18.5–24.9 band, and tells you the distance to the nearest edge
Alongside BMI you get BMI Prime (the ratio to the upper normal bound) and the Ponderal Index, which is more stable for very tall or very short people
Calculate percentages three ways — what is X% of Y, X is what percent of Y, and percentage increase or decrease between two numbers.
Calculate exact age in years, months, and days from a date of birth — plus total months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes, the weekday you were born, and a countdown to your next birthday.
Convert length, weight, temperature, area, volume, speed, time, data, pressure, energy, and angle units instantly with exact conversion factors
