What does a Facebook video downloader do?
A Facebook video downloader reads the link to a post and returns the video file the platform is already streaming to your browser. Facebook deliberately offers no save button on other people's videos, so the file is there in the page and out of reach of the interface. Pasting the link here closes that gap.
Facebook typically holds more than one rendition of the same video. There is a standard-definition copy that plays by default on a slow connection, and an HD copy when the person who uploaded it provided one. Both are offered where both exist, with the larger listed first, so you can take the better file rather than whatever the player happened to choose. Nothing is upscaled: if the uploader only ever published a 480p version, 480p is what exists.
Three link shapes all work. The long form with a story id, the `fb.watch` short link the share sheet produces, and a reel link. Watching a video inside a group or a page makes no difference to the link, only to whether the post is public.
What cannot be read is anything that is not public. Facebook's privacy model is finer-grained than most platforms: a video can be visible to friends, to friends of friends, to a closed group, or to one person. Every one of those requires a logged-in session that belongs to someone with access, which a tool working from a link alone does not have. If opening the link in a private browser window shows you a login wall, it cannot be resolved here, and the page will say that rather than hanging.
The file is served by Facebook's own content network. The lookup returns an address and your browser fetches from there, so the video never passes through this site, nothing you paste is stored, and your recent links stay in your own browser.
How do I download a Facebook video?
Copy the video link
Click Share under the video and choose Copy link, or copy the URL from the address bar while it plays. An fb.watch short link works just as well as the long form.
Paste it here
Put the link in the box or press Paste. Any fbclid tracking parameter Facebook attached to the share is removed before the lookup runs.
Read the post
Press Grab video. The cover and the uploader appear, with a button for each rendition Facebook holds: HD first where it exists, then SD.
Save the file
Click the quality you want. The file opens in a new tab served by Facebook, where your browser can save it. On a phone, press and hold to get the save option.
Key Features
HD and SD, both offered
Where Facebook holds two renditions, both are listed with the larger first, so you take the better file rather than the one the player picked for your connection
Every link shape
Long story links, fb.watch short links and reel links all resolve. A video posted inside a public group or page works the same way
Nothing added to the picture
No watermark, no logo, no end card. The file is a copy of what Facebook serves rather than a re-encode with branding on it
No extension, no account
A browser extension with permission to read every page you visit is a high price for saving a video. This needs neither that nor a login
