What does a Twitch clip downloader do?
It reads a Twitch clip page and returns the MP4 behind the player. Clips are the short excerpts viewers cut from a live stream, and unlike the stream itself they are stored as ordinary video files, which is what makes them straightforward to save.
There is a reason to save them that does not apply to most platforms: Twitch clips do not necessarily last. A clip is tied to the broadcast it came from, and when a channel is deleted, a video is removed for a copyright claim, or a VOD expires under the retention window for that account type, clips can go with it. Anyone archiving their own highlights, or keeping a reference for an edit, is working against a clock that other platforms do not run.
What comes back is the clip at whatever qualities Twitch stores it. Source quality depends on the broadcast: a stream delivered at 1080p60 gives clips at 1080p60, and one delivered at 720p gives 720p. The renditions are listed by height with the largest first, and nothing is upscaled.
Both link shapes work. The clips.twitch.tv form and the twitch.tv/channel/clip/ form address the same object, and the share button in the player produces one or the other depending on where you press it. A link to a full VOD or a live channel is a different thing: those are long adaptive streams rather than stored files, and they are not what this reads.
Clips from a subscriber-only VOD, a deleted channel or a clip that has been removed cannot be read, because there is nothing public left to serve. The page says which case it hit rather than failing blankly.
How do I download a Twitch clip?
Copy the clip link
Press the share icon on the clip and copy the link. Both the clips.twitch.tv form and the twitch.tv/channel/clip/ form work here.
Paste it here
Put the link in the box or press Paste. Tracking parameters added by the share are removed before the lookup.
Read the clip
Press Grab video. The clip title and the channel appear, with a button for each quality Twitch holds, largest first.
Save the file
Click a quality. The MP4 opens in a new tab served by Twitch, where your browser can save it.
Key Features
Clips are stored files, so this is clean
Unlike a live stream or a VOD, a clip exists as an ordinary MP4, which means it is copied rather than reassembled from stream segments
Both link forms
clips.twitch.tv and twitch.tv/channel/clip/ address the same clip, and the share button gives you one or the other depending on where you press it
Every quality Twitch holds
Listed by height with the largest first. Source quality follows the broadcast, so a 1080p60 stream yields 1080p60 clips
Keep a clip that may not last
Clips can disappear with the channel, the VOD or a copyright claim, which is a real reason to archive your own highlights rather than trusting the link
