What is a DNG to JPG converter?
A DNG to JPG converter turns a DNG RAW photo into a JPG that any app or website will accept. This one extracts the JPEG preview embedded inside the DNG, picking the largest one when there are several, and saves it as a JPG. It does not develop the RAW sensor data, so there is no white balance, exposure or noise reduction step, and the size of the JPG depends on how big a preview the phone, drone, camera or software that wrote the file chose to embed.
DNG, short for Digital Negative, is the open RAW format Adobe introduced in 2004 and documents in a public specification. Unlike CR2 or NEF, which each belong to one camera maker, DNG is written by many kinds of device. iPhone Pro models save Apple ProRAW as DNG, Google Pixel and many other Android phones save DNG in RAW mode, a lot of drones record DNG stills, and some cameras use it as their native RAW format. Adobe DNG Converter and Lightroom also produce DNG from other RAW formats.
That variety is why results differ so much from file to file. A DNG from a dedicated camera, or one saved with a full-size preview, can give you a JPG at full resolution. Phones and drones often embed a small preview, so a 4032x3024 phone photo might come out as a 672x504 JPG. The note under each file's row says the JPG is the embedded preview and, when the preview is smaller than the full image, prints both sizes. Some DNGs hold no preview a browser can decode, and those are refused with a message naming the camera. When you need full resolution from a small-preview file, develop the DNG in darktable, RawTherapee or Lightroom instead.
The preview is re-encoded at the Quality setting, which runs from 10 to 100 and starts at 90, and turned upright using the orientation stored in the file. Moving the slider converts every added file again at the new setting. EXIF data and GPS coordinates, which phone and drone photos usually carry, are not copied into the JPG.
The whole job is client-side. A small preview extractor loads when you add the first DNG, then your browser reads the DNG and writes the JPG without uploading anything. Files over 200 MB and previews over 100 megapixels are refused with a message rather than freezing the tab, and a file that is not a DNG is turned away with a link to the right converter. Batches download one by one or as a ZIP, and the tool is free, no signup, with a daily limit on conversions.

Adjust the quality
The Quality slider starts at 90. Leave it there to keep the preview close to how it was stored, or lower it when a smaller file matters more than fine detail. Every added file converts again at the new setting.
Check each row and its note
The largest readable preview in each DNG is extracted and saved, one file after another. Every row shows a thumbnail, its status and a size line comparing the DNG with the JPG. Read the note under it: if it lists a preview smaller than the full image, that file needs a RAW developer for a full-size JPG. Click the thumbnail to see the JPG large with its pixel size.

Why convert DNG to JPG?
DNG files turn up in places where nobody planned to edit RAW: a phone camera left in RAW mode, a drone that saves both formats, an archive someone converted years ago. The need is usually just to see and share the picture.
Phone RAW shots that apps will not open
Turn on ProRAW on an iPhone Pro, or RAW on a Pixel or another Android camera app, and the photos arrive as DNG. Messaging apps, upload forms and many photo viewers on other computers refuse them. Extracting the preview gets a shareable JPG, though often at a reduced size, which the note tells you.
Drone stills for a quick review
Drones that record DNG leave a card full of files that most laptops show as blank icons. Pulling out previews lets you check framing and pick shots before spending time on a full edit. Because GPS is not copied into the JPG, the previews are also safer to send around than the originals.

Photographers who converted NEF, ARW or other RAW files to DNG for long-term storage can use previews to find a picture without reopening the whole collection in an editor. How useful the JPG is depends on the preview size chosen when the archive was made.

Why DNG preview sizes vary so much
The DNG specification leaves the size of embedded previews largely to whatever writes the file. In practice a DNG can carry a tiny thumbnail, a medium preview, a full-size one, or several of these. This page looks through the file's directories, collects every JPEG preview a browser can decode, and keeps the one with the most pixels.
Phones and drones often embed small previews, which are enough for a gallery app to show a thumbnail. The full picture is meant to come from developing the RAW data. Desktop software such as Adobe DNG Converter and Lightroom lets you pick the preview size when it writes a DNG, which is why archived files differ too.
Some DNGs store only a lossless-compressed image or raw sensor data that a browser has no decoder for. Those files are refused with a message naming the camera, rather than producing a broken or empty JPG. A CR2 from a Canon DSLR is more predictable, because Canon usually embeds a full-size preview.
Privacy and security
- The DNG never leaves your device. The preview is found and saved as a JPG inside the browser tab.
- Location data stays behind: GPS coordinates and other EXIF fields from phone and drone shots are not written into the JPG.
- The daily limit check sends only the tool name, a device identifier and your sign-in token if you are signed in.
- After a batch, the page logs the file count, the total bytes and the output format, and nothing about what the photos show or where they were taken.
- Converted files stay in the tab's memory until you remove them, press Clear All or close the page, and no copy is stored on a server.
